Smith of Maddiston

My late father was a driver for the company in the 60s and 70s over two periods 1968 to 1973 and 1975 to 1979 hence my connection with Smith of Maddiston.
In 2000, I wondered where the company had gone as they were no longer on our roads.
This started a 23 year project researching the company, locations, customers, fleet and employees. Over this period, I have spoken to many ex employees of the company including two Directors, the Company Secretary and many Drivers of their vehicles.
I have 800 photographs of the fleet, depots and employees as well as a lot of factual information how they started, purchased failing transport companies, secured major contracts with blue chip companies, its peak in 1968 and the slow demise in the late 1970s.
